vspMgr by K5FR is a lightweight Windows utility that creates virtual COM port pairs, letting two applications communicate as if they were linked with a serial null‑modem cable. Widely used in the amateur radio community, it makes it easy to share a transceiver’s CAT/control interface among multiple programs and to interconnect software that only supports serial ports—without extra hardware.

Key capabilities:

  • Create and remove virtual COM port pairs on demand
  • Simple, no‑frills interface for managing ports
  • Enables multiple apps to access rig control/CAT data reliably
  • Eliminates the need for physical null‑modem cables or extra USB‑serial adapters
  • Useful with popular ham radio software (e.g., logging, digital mode, and rig control tools)

Typical uses:

  • Share one radio’s CAT port between logging, digital modes, and control software
  • Link two local applications that expect serial COM ports
  • Streamline station integration when physical serial ports are limited

Note: For specific OS compatibility, installation steps, and detailed configuration, refer to the documentation provided by K5FR.

I am a Windows 10 Insider and have found that vspMgr 1.03.1 Virtual com ports are being removed by Windows each time I restart Windows. I can reinstall vspMgr and get a warning but by continuing it will set up the com ports for me. My call is W5LRU and AF MARS AFA6WE, and I use it mainly for the MARS digital transmissions.

Vic White, it does the same thing for me. The program is removed from windows 10. It reinstalls just fine. It also works just fine after I install it again. But then when I restart windows later, Vspmgr is gone. It does not remove it immediately but eventually its gone. The first indication is the Icon on the desktop is gone.
